Tom Marais, one of the best to come out of SA. It all started with an interest in telling stories, never imagined he would end up capturing them until he was in film school. Fascinated by the visual language that is cinematography… Tom picked up the camera and never placed it down.

He loves everything about the craft; especially how one can use the light and composition to narrate a mood or idea. When it comes to inspiration, he looks to anything in visual form like stills, paintings and other films. He keeps up with latest trends and sometimes dabbles in setting trends himself. Besides skill and experience, he brings a fresh creative flair on set. He reads the script and comes up with a striking visual design and interpretation of the story in mind, working with the team to ensure the project runs smoothly and looks fabulous.

This has been his dream for the longest time ever and he can never imagine doing anything else but film; with such a tremendous passion for his work it’s not hard for him to keep working at perfecting his craft and bringing new techniques to set.
