KWANDA HLATSHWAYO
Kwanda Hlatshwayo, is a skilful Director of Photography based in Johannesburg, South Africa with an extensive reel in narrative, music videos and commercials.
His adoration for storytelling is what led him to study cinematography at AFDA and began his career in the early 2010’s as a frequent collaborator with directors, Justice Mukheli and Keitumetse Qhali. He draws on his personal experiences when working on a project and honed his craft shooting on multiple productions for ShowMax, Mzansi Magic and MTV Base South.
Kwanda’s drive, perseverance and patience for filmmaking has licensed him to be called an Innovative and Creative DoP to help define the African cinematic future.
He is flexible and is available to travel worldwide!

Kwanda’s original plan was to become a director but after University, he decided to look at cinematography and has never looked back. His main influence is DOP Hype Williams, that shoots mostly music videos, the very same ones that caught Kwanda’s attention while growing up.
He believes the best weapons to have in his arsenal on set are a willingness to learn, to be innovative and always have an urge to grow. Kwanda is excited when working with new teams on new projects where he can solve issues that arise with a like-minded team.
While Kwanda is fascinated with music and architecture his love for the industry is too firm to drag him away. Originally from KZN, Kwanda has made Joburg his home.
