CALVIN THOMPSON
Calvin is a Durban based Director of Photography, with a passion for marrying great storytelling with strong visuals.
Starting out in surf media back in 2014, he has since worked as a freelance cinematographer on a multitude of projects both locally and abroad. With a varied portfolio, he’s proven to be technically and creatively adept in narrative work, documentaries, commercials and music videos. His level of dedication and positive nature make him a welcomed partner on any project.
“Being behind the lens is my happy place. I love working out a unique visual language that compliments the feeling or message a scene or moment is trying to convey. Seeing a director’s vision come to life from storyboard to screen, is something I feel privileged to be a part of.”
His short films and documentaries have had multiple festival entries and awards. His latest short, Stitched-Up (Dir. Gareth Kaatze), was picked as a Finalist in the 2023 Ciclope Craft Awards held in Berlin, and awarded ‘Best In Craft’ for the South African IDIDTHAT Craft Awards 2023.
